Congratulations Daniel Martinez

After 13 days, 13 hours, 29 minutes and 17 seconds, Daniel and the crew on Talanta-95 have arrived in France, finishing the 2,897 nautical mile Transat Quebec/St-Malo ocean race!

TalantaTransat Quebec St Malo Course

The passage was completed on a Class 40 sailboat with 4 total crew. This is a boat Bainbridge supported during the recent Atlantic Cup by supplying a Karver KSF2 overnight, splicing new furling lines and replacing the Watt & Sea Prop. This Transatlantic race is the way that many of the European boats head home after competing in events on this side of the ocean for the year.

Happening every 4 years, this race was started in 1984 to commemorate the 450th Anniversary of the explorer Jacques Cartier’s voyage from St. Malo to Quebec in 1534, claiming Canada for the French. It remains a huge cultural event in both Quebec and Levis and in St. Malo with festivals, concerts and nightly parties in the race village engaging the general public. This strong relationship between France and Canada really works toward helping Bainbridge achieve great things bringing the technology of the French brands we represent into the Canadian market.

The boat was powered by several products Bainbridge supplies. It is completely equipped with Karver furlers, top swivels, blocks and jammers. They generated their own power using a Watt & Sea 600W Cruising unit combined with solar panels built into the boat, and Yale Ultrex was aboard for repairs, lashings and soft shackles. All this gave Daniel the opportunity to do nearly 3,000 miles of product testing.

Before heading home to the states Daniel will be traveling to Honfleur to meet with Karver at their offices and do some technical training. Check back for full debriefs of the race and what he learned.
